Sensex at 16,799.52; DLF down by over 7%

Mid-day Market Round-up
The Sensex has been trading in green for the entire trading session so far, the Nifty dipped marginally a couple times, but recovered quickly. After opening at 16,782.24, the Sensex lost a few points in the initial hour (day’s low: 16,748.36), before rising up to 17,000.38 at 11:00 a.m. At 12:45 p.m. it was down to 16,799.52. The Nifty was also volatile and rose to 5109.85 before settling at 5,049.50 at 12:45 p.m.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, IT and FMCG faired well, posting gains of 1.34% and 1.17% respectively. Realty dragged the Sensex down with a loss of 4.54%.

Gainers and Losers
Coal India (2.14%), Sun Pharma (1.76%), TCS (1.76%), ONGC (1.65%) and HDFC (1.62%) were the highest gainers on the BSE Sensex, while HDFC (1.96%), Sun Pharma (1.92%), TCS (1.89%), ONGC (1.79%) and Siemens (1.54%) led on the Nfty.

DLF lost a whopping 7.7% on both indices.  Maruti Suzuki (-3.57%), Axis Bank (-3.44%), Reliance Communications (-3.29%) and Tata Motors (-3.07%) followed on the 50-share index; Maruti Suzuki (-3.44%), Tata Motors (-3.00%), ICICI Bank (-2.43%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (-2.08%) were the other major losers on the 30-share index.

Midcap and Smallcap
Unlike the larger indices, the BSE Midcap and Smallcap traded in red. The Midcap index was at 6,327.04, down 70.29 points or 1.10%. The Smallcap index lost 101.05 points or 1.355 to reach 7,460.95.

The market breadth was negative overall with 1883 declines and 730 advances. 116 Scrips remained unchanged.
